Our “Bed and Breakfast”, “La pilozza infiorata”, is situated in the magnificent historical centre of Caltagirone, visited and loved by tourists all over the world. Near to the principal square of the town, to the very famous “Santa Maria del Monte’s Ladder” and to the other touristical resources that the place offers, our building predominates above the others.
Dated back about in the middle of the XIX century, it has got a great historical and artistical value in “Liberty Style”. It owned to one of the most prestigious families of the town, but also known all over Sicily, and moreover because of the artistical heritage that the best known “Vaccaro” family (sculptors) gave to the town, which principal works of art are keeped and protected by the “Regional Museum of Ceramics” in Caltagirone.
The name of our “B&B”, “La pilozza infiorata”, derives from a very big typical tank situated in the hall of the house, that in the past time was used for giving water to horses and livestock in general, which were taken in the lower parts of the houses and by housewives in order to do the washing; now we use it for flowers.
Our house has 12 rooms and 6 bathrooms, 2 kitchens and a terrace where we usually have breakfast during spring and summer, with a wonderful and wide view from one of the highest parts of the town.
Actually we have 5 rooms for “B&B” with bathroom, air – conditioned,small-frigo and TV. You can also choose indipedent small flats of 50 mq each one , for your larger privacy, with cooking corner, refrigerator and living-room, ideal for families.
The first flat has 3 bedspaces and it is situated inside our building, downstair, with an added single bed, with panoramical view near the house.
Breakfast is prepared with typical sicilian products, as orange and mandarine jams, without preservatives or other added products, bought by a typical sicilian farm, selected by ourselves, fresh orange juice, absolutely natural produced by our citrus trees, mulberries fruits just picked and waited upon the table, and finally the original sicilian water ice.
The “Pilozza infiorata "B&B” furnished and cared in a particular manner, is run by the owner of the building who, after her degree in “Economics and administration for tourist services” taken in 2001 with the highest grades, has thought to make a good use of it, through her house of about 230 mq and her cultural background.
In fact, Dr. Agnese Mascara speaks three foreign languages as English, French and German and knows sites, places , monuments, villas, typical of Baroque and Liberty Style in Caltagirone, events, unknown popular traditions and wonderful archeological sites of the area and the second as importance and finds only after Siracusa, not so known to the tourist.
LOCATION
Owner of ceramics and lady of the sky, Caltagirone is situated on an high hill and offers an image of kindness and decoration; artistical town, rich in monuments, events, typical popular traditions and culture, baroque buildings which remember the ancient splendour. Unfortunately it is a town with an urban order not so common in the south, with an historical centre keeped intact during the time, far from the other parts of Sicily because of the past abusive actions. Caltagirone shows its origins because it is particularly cared by the local administration and its inhabitants. As the most important artistical towns, a part of the historical centre is out of traffic and it is reserved to people, in order to enjoy of the touristical resources that this place offers. There are many places to visit in Caltagirone, above all "Maria Santissima del Monte's Ladder" composed by 142 steps, each one decorated with polychromatical majolicas, different according to subjects, colours and styles.
